Ayton, Scarborough

Chris Blackburn, Eastfield, Scarborough
This job came through after the customer found us online. The property was quite full at the start of the job as you can see from the photographs. All the carpets were removed in this clearance, this involved a full extra day of cleaning the house from top to bottom, the house was sold only two weeks later.

This job came through the website. This was a property that needed to be sold on, and as such was completely cleared and cleaned throughout. Ercol nest of tables to sell, which will be sold separately. There were also several outbuildings, including a garage. The customer actually lived in Portsmouth, and as such photographs were sent of before and after to the customer, for his approval. Keys were collected from a neighbour.

Plaxton Court, Scarborough
A job for a local Solicitors, a written probate valuation of contents was provided to enable the solicitor to complete the estate. Working with the staff of the Plaxton Court Centre, we were able to remove all of the items without causing any unnecessary noise and disturbance to the other residents.  Some items were sent to a local trusted storage facility.

Newby Farm, Newby, Scarborough
This job came to us through contact via our website. Measured glass for the back window, as per the customers request. The plants and garden furniture were all left for the next owners, this had been requested by the customer as the previous occupant had been a keen gardener. A Bosch washing machine was used in part payment for the job, this can always be done where there are valuable objects.

The Garlands & Westwood Gardens, Scarborough

A general clearance of a flat with difficult access conditions via an extremely steep driveway, and via a narrow external stairway

This job came from a local solicitor who was carrying out dealing with the estate. I also provided a written probate for value of contents purposes. There was also a car that was moved on.
This was one of the more unusual house clearances we had done for some time. The house had been with the same occupant for many years, and as a result the occupant didn’t believe in throwing anything away, and had a use for most things! We found countless glass jars throughout the property that had various uses! Across the property there was a great deal of electronic equipment, which when amassed in the lounge completely filled it. The majority of the electronics were sold later at auction in one lot. There was two van loads of scrap metal, two vans of various wood.

After contacting us via social media we were able to provide a estimate over the phone. The customer had managed to clear much of the house, but didn’t have access or anyone to be able to clear the larger objects such as washing machines, warbrobes and larger items of furniture.

Crown Terrace, South Cliff, Scarborough

A job through a local solicitor.
The original light fittings were of an ornate nature, and were changed by us in order that they could be sold at auction. A Victorian Credenza was part of the belongings, this had been fitted with a later, yet collectable hi fi system. This was later sold onto a specialist buyer and it achieved a good amount. Rather than the customer paying for the job, due to the nature and quality of the contents involved we actually paid them, whilst completely clearing out the contents for them. Other items included Royal Dux figures, card table, lamps, mirrors, marble top chiffenour, wall sconces, light fittings.

A first floor one bedroomed flat on South Cliff contents were cleared and recycled, the one notable item being a rare 1920’s Poole Pottery fish, precariously balanced on the edge of the bath which had a minor chip on, but still raised considerable interest and an auction price of £180.00, the money raised actually paid for the clearance to be carried out for the beneficiaries of the will.

When Jamie was asked to attend a clearance at a local Scarborough town property, he did not suspect anything out of the ordinary when entering the house, but it was like going back in a time warp to the 1950’s, nothing had changed since that date. The antique furniture included many Victorian and Edwardian items which were relatively untouched and generated alot of interest during their sale.

An antique cardboard packaging box, of which type had not been seen before by collectors, was also sold, and was thought to be sent off for replication in China, for reproduction purposes.

There was even a safety deposit box tucked away under the bed, containing Gold Sovereigns, and antique jewellery including a fabulous Edwardian pendant on Ornate Rose Gold chain. Waterford Crystal glassware were also tucked away in bedroom furniture drawers.

By the time the contents were auctioned off at local auctioneers £18,000 was raised.

Another clearance into a property in Staxton and the house had been badly neglected with ivy growing in through the windows, the kitchen was basically a no-go zone due to its shear neglect over many years.

Surprisingly the property contained many pieces of antique furniture, just as the house had been neglected around them, they had been knawed by mice, and were under several layers of dust.

The antiques were very popular with the local and national trade, and raised a substantial amount of money for the family.

Prominent Leyburn Auctioneers, Tennants recently auctioned off a Chinese Vase for £3m after it was discovered by chance when an auctioneer went around to value the contents of the house in the Yorkshire Dales. Initially it was thought that the vase hailed from the 19th Century and was a reproduction of an earlier vase from the Dynasty of Emporer Yongzheng, who ruled from 1722 to 1735.

However, by the time the sale took place the true age, value and authenticity became apparent.

Mr Tennant said the owner, who wished to remain anonymous, had decided to sell his furniture after the death of his wife and had no idea of its value or age.

“It had been in the house for 45 years,” he said. “He said it was a wonder it had never been damaged by cats and dogs running around and kids playing football in the room – they said it was the only item in the house not to be damaged.”

The owner was astounded after the sale.
